Wild Pickerel Fillet
Pickerel is a freshwater fish that is a member of the pike family and is enjoyed as being a leaner fillet than many other fish types. When cooked, pickerel is very white and flaky with a mild flavour, not a strong “fishy” taste.
A source of omega-3 fatty acids, which are healthy fats, pickerel are native to Eastern North America, and have been a big part of fishing “shore lunches” for generations.
Cooking tip – Due to its mild flavour, pickerel is best when prepared simply – sprinkle with lemon pepper and pan fry in a bit of butter.
